C.C. GETS BEATEN UP AT THE VENUE! (5/2/88)
This Is Serious Mum seem to have outgrown the Prince of Wales and have moved around to the Venue, and although they didn’t play in the Ballroom, the place was packed out!! T.I.S.M. have had a wardrobe change and gone are the days of Klu-Klux-Klan outfits and Ninja balaclavas. Now it’s turbans, orange robes (very Krishna guys) and theatrical masks. You still can’t see who they are but, according to T.I.S.M., ‘it’s the new style’.!!
The question on everyone’s lips was ‘what are T.I.S.M. going to do tonight?’. Maybe an example of tighter gun laws, shaving off Derrin Hinch’s beard or suicide on stage!!
The show began with a poem by Ron ‘Hitler’ himself titled ‘The Only Bad Drug is Not Crack, Smack, Dope or Coke But….Marriage’, a poem about the suburban boy getting married and his mates can’t understand why. This was a witty little introduction and, suddenly the music started with ‘Choose Bad Smack’. For some reason it wasn’t a good idea to stand up the front – not only did you have to avoid the ‘slammers’ but also look out for the ignorant slimes who seemed mentally affected by watching too many W.W.F. videos and doing the ‘crusher’. It was hell!!
The show involved a mixture of new tracks, such as, ‘Coke Roadie’, ‘I Drive A Truck’ and others. As well as the old faves like ‘All Ordinary Index’, ’40 Years’, ‘I’m Into Led Zep’, ‘Defecate On My Face’ and ‘Death Death Death’.
Midway through this musical extravaganza came a Ron Hitler statement ‘I can handle Y.T.T., 60 Mins and Jana Wendt, but not Derrin Hinch going to jail’. Well you can imagine the response! This gig certainly taught Ron a lesson about standing too close to the crowd (when about to do ‘Root’, someone swiped off his mask, exposing the ‘normal person’. SHOCK, HORROR! The show was great, but will T.I.S.M. outgrow the Venue? or will the Venue outgrow T.I.S.M.???
